The Background Story

Plant Kuching started off as a side project run by Backyard Tour to look for alternative ways to support our rural community partners. Initially, it was done in response to the ongoing pandemic, which paralyzed the travel industry as a whole and robbed our partners the opportunity to showcase their beautiful backyards to visitors. We had long realized that our partners are avid plant lovers and are extremely talented in making handicraft items. Thus, we worked together to open an avenue for their plants to be sold to the market. Later, we also work on creating beautiful and colorful weaved baskets that can function as decorative planter pots.

Our plant collection

As our mission is to holistically empower our rural community partners, we usually source our plants from them. Thus, our plant collection consists of mainly locally available plant species. Some of these plants are in abundance and commonly available, such as Caladium and Alocasia species.

We also sell a variety of indoor options for those plants, especially the ones that requires low to medium sunlight intake. Although you can have just any plant to be placed indoor, not all plants are suitable to be placed inside as houseplants. Plants that require direct sunlight would do better when placed outdoor. Some indoor plants that you can consider are snake plant, ZZ plant and peace lily. There are also research done by NASA back in 1989 concluding that some of these houseplants can absorb harmful toxins from the air, making them good natural air purifiers.

Since not everyone may like the idea of having plant in soil pot, you can also opt to have your indoor plants in water instead. Extra care required as those plants will be prone to root-rot problems. Check our soil-less plants below:-

Our weaved basket collection
